Fabric stash top ups

I just remembered that I didn’t put up the pictures of the fabric I bought on our big fabric shopping trip. I am going to rectify this immediately.

These I bought at Remnant warehouse.

This suiting is very light and does not crush. At all!

Sudden inspiration

Remember that silk/cotton treasure I found in my fabric stash? Here it is

I found a blouse pattern in Burda magazine I thought was very cute. I don’t hesitate once I find something interesting, so I pre-shrunk, dried and cut the fabric on Saturday. On Sunday (while my husband and son were busy bonding) I got so carried away I completed the blouse by 2pm. I have no buttons for it, of course, but it is DONE.

PR weekend Sydney. The fabric shopping lollapalooza

The first day of the PR weekend was awesome. We boarded a bus by 9am which took us all around Sydney’s fabric shops. The fabric choice was amazing, I had the most fabulous time. Now a few pictures I snapped with my cellphone.

The standard knits

This is a huge place full of all sorts of knit fabrics, you name it – they have it

After this we went to the Remnant warehouse. I have no pictures of this lovely place because I was too busy shopping. I even won a voucher which I promptly spent.

Metro fabrics

The place is full of bra making, corset making, dance wear and active wear fabric. Good selection of cotton too. I have never seen so many types of spiral boning. I never knew there WERE so many types of spiral boning!

Designer fabric, expensive. Some gorgeous bridal and evening wear material. Eye watering prices ( Silk satin is $194 AUS per metre ). We had some champagne there!

Macy’s jacket. Mission accomplished.

Well, I finally finished my jacket, and it sits beautifully. I was so excited I even whipped up a v-neck to go under it in a very colour coordinated fabric. Actualy, I whipped up two tops – one appeared to be too small due to me chosing a wrong block ( doh!! ). Anyway, I wore them both today and they were lovely. I like that v-neck pattern so much I am going to make myself a few tops in the next few days I think – they are so easy to sew. I promise to upload the pictures as soon as I get my tripod back. In the meantime here are the fabrics I used:

Composition: Cotton 98% Spandex 2%

How to calculate amount of fabric required to sew a garment

Here is a little something that might help you to buy fabric

Approximate calculation for fabrics 150 cm wide.
For fabrics 110 cm wide allow for 2 finished lengths + 2 sleeve lengths.

Sizes 12-16

Sizes 18-24

 

Calculations are approximate, maximum amount of fabric that should be needed based on general clothing sizes. Take in account height and weight, and measure carefully to make sure you are purchasing enough fabric for your project.
If your garment has additional details such as patch pockets, pleats, complex collars and other design details, or you wish to use fabric with one way design, nap, checks or stripes, please allow extra 30 – 40 cm. Please note that fabrics containing natural fibres do shrink if washed. Please pre-wash such fabrics and allow for shrinkage when purchasing.
